Flackton's sonatas are among the earliest original works for the viola. Their moderate difficulty level allows them to be performed as opening pieces in concerts.

The work is one of the highlights of Telemann's trio sonata art. The text was presented after the first printing of 1733, which the master himself engraved in copper.

For practicing Beethoven's 'Augengläserduo' (BP 430), this is a technically easy piece.
