Hardly any other German composer of the 18th century was as familiar with the French musical style as Telemann. In 1737/38 Telemann undertook a trip to Paris at the invitation of the virtuosos Michel Blavet (flute), Jean Pierre Guignon (violin), Jean-Baptiste Forcroy (viola da gamba) and Edouard (violoncello). In his luggage he carried, among other things, six quartets for flute, violin, viola da gamba or violoncello and basso continuo, which he had already published in Hamburg in 1730: 2 concerti, 2 sonatas and 2 suites. These are quartets 1 to 6 of the so-called "Paris Quartets", with which he had extraordinary success at the "Concerts spirituels" in Paris. Our editions include the two suites complete and unabridged, playable for both pure recorder quartet (AATB) and recorder quartet with basso continuo. Both suites are transposed upwards by a minor third - both voluminous volumes, joy of playing is guaranteed.

MVB 82: G. Ph. Telemann: "Paris Quartets" - Première Suite
MVB 83: G. Ph. Telemann: "Parisian Quartets" - Deuxième Suite

In addition to the two volumes "Paris Quartets" there is the musical history "Georg Philipp Telemann and the Journey to Paris 1737/38", in which all movements of these two volumes are combined into a complete performance of text and music (approx. 45 minutes).
