This collection of operatic arias is derived from the era known as The Golden Age of Opera and the great Italian opera composers. In 19th century Italy the Bel Canto tradition of vocalizing remained predominant, combined with the opera buffa characters and themes of the 18th century. Bellini's Norma and Donizetti's Lucia Di Lammermoor based on Sir Walter Scott's historical novel The Bride Of Lammermoor are examples of this hybrid genre.

Giuseppe Verdi, the last of the masters of 19th Century Italian opera is the focus of this album. His passionate style gave us arias which were spectacular yet contained subtle emotions. Addio de passato and De miei bollenti spiriti from La Traviata (The Fallen Woman) are exemplary of these qualities.
