The Mexican composer Consuelo Velázquez wrote the love song 'Bésame Mucho' in 1941, after which it became world famous and was interpreted by many other artists in various musical styles and languages. The title means something like 'Kiss me very hard'. Consuelo Velázquez once told in an interview that she herself had never kissed anyone when she composed 'Bésame Mucho' and wrote the lyrics to it. The melody of the song quotes a theme by the Spanish composer Enrique Granados, who used it in two of his own compositions. First in his piano piece 'Quejas o la maja y el ruiseñor' and later in his opera 'Goyescas'. Through its use in 'Bésame Mucho' it became known around the globe and has established itself as a classic of Latin American music. Markus Götz has worked out 'Bésame Mucho' for wind orchestra and solo flugelhorn very creatively, using the Latin American dance and music styles of rumba, bossa and tango. The soft sound of the flugelhorn fits wonderfully to the longing message 'Kiss me very hard' and spreads a very emotional atmosphere.
