Description:
Jack Gallagher (*1947) graduated cum laude from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Arts and earned a master's and doctoral degree in composition from Cornell University in the United States. His teachers include Elie Siegmeister, Robert Palmer and Burril Phillips. He attended seminars with Karel Husa, Thea Musgrave and Ned Rorem and took part in master classes with Aaron Copland and George Crumb. Jack Gallagher has received awards, scholarships, and recognitions from the Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship Program, the Charles Ives Center for American Music, Meet the Composer, and others. His compositions have been performed or recorded by the Polish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra Krakow, the Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ruse Philharmonic, the Charleston Symphony, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, the Gregg Smith Singers, the Spoleto U.S.A. Festival Brass Quintet, the Air Force Band of Flight and many others. His compositions, including Symphony in One Movement: Threnody, The Persistence of Memory and Proteus Rising from the Sea, have been released on seven CDs. He is a professor of music at the College of Wooster in Ohio.
