Description:

  • Accompaniment: Piano
Trained on many instruments by the town piper of Schleusingen near his birthplace Erlau in Thuringia, Kaspar (Gaspard, Caspar) Kummer served in various capacities in the service of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha from 1813. In 1821 he became 1st flautist of the castle chapel. When he retired in 1855, he henceforth devoted himself exclusively to his pupils and to composing. Contemporaries appreciated his full tone, his precise technique, his tasteful performance, as well as his approximately 150 compositions, which were still based on classical models, but also bore romantic-virtuoso traits and stood out from the bulk of the salon pieces of the time. Kummer died of the consequences of a stroke in Coburg. From his youth is the second piece from the cycle 'Lyrische Klänge nach Friedrich Rückerts Gedichten' op. 109.

Plate number 7460 / published 1843.
