Description:

  • Accompaniment: Piano
A student of Antonin Reicha at the Paris Conservatoire, Eugène Walckiers, a native of the French part of Flanders, ranks among illustrious French composers: Hector Berlioz, Charles Gounod or César Franck. He studied flute with Jean-Louis Tulou and was one of the celebrated flute virtuosos at the time, whose reputation still resonates today thanks to their works for and with flute(s). He himself played regularly in a legendary quartet with the best flutists of his time: Jean Firmin Brossa, Johannes Donjon and Paul Taffanel, among others. This Fantaisie sur des Motifs de l'Opera 'Guillaume Tell' was published, with insignificant deviations, in the year after the premiere of the opera both by Schott in Mainz and by Troupenas in Paris (record number 374), the original publisher of the last four Rossini operas. Plate number 3289 / published in 1830.
