Description:

  • Key: D major
  • Accompaniment: Piano
Gottlieb Heinrich Köhler was born in Dresden. After his apprenticeship with the Stadtmusikus of Bautzen, he worked as a flute and piano teacher in his hometown before finding employment as an 'art violinist' in the Ratsmusik of Leipzig. At the same time he played as a flutist (later as a violinist and timpanist) in the Gewandhaus Orchestra, and as a composer he left behind a wealth of flute works that reflect the classical canon of forms as well as the gallant virtuoso playing culture of the time. The present sonata is second of Trois Sonates / pour / Piano-Forte et Flûte obligé / par / HENRY KOEHLER / Oeuvre 138. Livre 2.

Plate number 1774 / published 1822.
