The composition, which features three discrete movements (Allegro - Andante - Allegro), portrays in music the climate that the two sister cities experience on the occasions of meetings and ceremonies. The short and solemn introduction, which symbolically welcomes the guests from Neufahrn, is followed by the Allegro vivace that depicts the joyful moments upon meeting old and new friends. More melancholic and reflexive feelings characterize the second movement, Andante ('sweetly' as written in the score). It is the time of remembrance: not only happy moments occurred in thirty years of friendship, and everyone thinks about those who are no longer there, those who have passed away. Finally, the party starts in the third movement, another Allegro vivace. Here, music, dances, and convivial occasions help to consolidate old friendships and begin new ones. In conclusion, the brief and solemn coda turns into a musical greeting for the friends of Neufahrn, a farewell that anticipates new and soon-to-happen encounters. All themes of the composition are drawn from the first six numbers of the series of the mathematician Fibonacci (1170-1240), which are transformed into musical intervals and used in the original sequence and its permutations: inversion, retrograde, and retrograde inversion.
