Sergei Sergejewitsch Prokofjew
Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev (b. April 23, 1891 at Sonzovka Manor, † March 5, 1953 in Moscow), or Sergei Prokofiev, was a composer and pianist from the Russian Empire and the later Soviet Union.
Prokofiev's style is as varied as the geographical stations of his life (Russia, USA, France, Germany, USSR) and certainly at times reflects the circumstances of his life, for example his harmonically moderate works of the late 1940s/early 1950s, which he created under Soviet 'supervision' in conformity with the regime and close to the people. At the same time, however, Prokofiev felt the need throughout his life to sound out the various epochal currents (P. speaks of "lines") from classical to modern and to incorporate them into his music. The result is an oeuvre that unmistakably bears the composer's signature and at the same time can hardly be surpassed in its richness of facets.
This includes: 7 published symphonies, about 40 orchestral works of various genres and about 10 solo concertos, 9 published operas, about 7 ballets and 4 dramatic works, 14 chamber music works, about 70 piano works for two and 6 for four hands. Furthermore, 14 vocal works with orchestra (here you can also find the Symphonic Fairy Tale for Children Peter and the Wolf op. 67 composed in 1936), around the 5 choral works and 15 songs for voice and piano.
You can search our online store specifically for titles by Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev, for example in the spelling prokofiev symphony 5 to find our editions for the Symphony No. 5 Op. 100.
