Description:
Discommotion is a medium up-tempo (quarter note=176) blues in B-flat that really shouts for 4 minutes and 55 seconds. Reminiscent of big band jazz from the 1960's, it might be called a sort of 'Off-Basie' chart. Solos are for piano, tenor sax and trombone. The 2nd trumpet takes over the lead for one short chorus while 1st trumpet does some screaming. Highest note is altissimo C 5. This song was recorded by Count Basie and his Orchestra on Roulette Records in 1960. The current Basie Orchestra performs it live in concert presently, highlighting a two-chorus trumpet soli that creates a bit of excitement just prior to the tenor sax solo. Medium difficulty or slightly beyond; Ensemble high for lead trumpet is F4.
