Description:
The title should be a bit of a clue for what's in store! A disjunct rhythm section vamp over a burning swing feel (at least as burning as you can play it) is the 'foundation' that's dedicdedly out of plumb; but, nevertheless, must support the angular melody and laser-like brass punches that constitute the head. The solos for guitar and tenor (also cued for trpt) that follow seem something of a relief at first but give the soloists plenty of opportunity to blaze away! THEN comes the 'Madcap section'!! This is where almost everything that has gone on previously in the chart (head, vamp, punches, background figures, & solos) returns - only on top of a drum solo!! If any of this makes any sense to you - THIS IS YOUR TYPE OF CHART! If not, see 'Cute - Hefti, Neil'. Alto 2 dbls fl. As recorded by Chuck Owen and the Jazz Surge on 'Madcap' on Sea Breeze Jazz.
