Description:
The centerpiece of Dan's big band CD, Pulse, this three-movement suite with narrator features the poetry of acclaimed poet Timothy Young. A metaphor of a trip to the underworld, the poem examines themes involving myth, descent, and continuance. The first movement is orchestral in nature and highlights woodwind doubling work as well as extended piano work. The second movement showcases out-of-time, textural sounds with an alto solo weaving its way in and out of the texture. The third and final movement reveals a driving rhythm in the piano and the bass over which the narrator and band trade jabs. Movement three also includes a piano and tenor solo, although those solos may be reassigned. Trumpet plays to a C# above the staff.Sop,Sop,Clar,Clar,4,4,Vibes,P,B,D.
