Vortex is a medium swing composition for jazz ensemble, and is designed for the advanced jazz ensemble. It is intended to have a loose, ECM-like rhythm section feel. The chord progression is tricky for the trumpet and tenor saxophone soloists.There is some light flute doubling in both of the alto saxophone parts. Trumpet range is to G5, trombone to A#4, and the piece call for 5 trumpets and 5 trombones.
