Description:
In the second volume of his compendium of organ music, Matthias Schneider offers a multifaceted overview of the playing style of organ works by individual composers - from Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach to Mendelssohn and Liszt, Franck and Guilmant to the present day.
Selected organ works are used to address fundamental questions of performance and discuss them in an exemplary manner, so that the knowledge gained can be easily transferred to other works from the same period and from a comparable environment. The familiar notation of more recent pieces may lead one to assume that one is sufficiently familiar with the execution, choice of tempo and ornamentation, touch and articulation, choice of appropriate stops and playing style. However, concrete information is also required for this music in order to be able to perform it properly and establish criteria for one's own interpretation.
In addition to the portraits of the individual compositions and their playing style, Schneider also deals with general aspects of organ music, performance practice and organ building.
