Description:
Music and media seem to be almost omnipresent in our time and have entered into a close symbiosis in many places. The programming of over 300 radio stations in Germany consists mainly of music, concerts have developed into major multimedia events, MTV is one of the most valuable brands worldwide and the Internet is characterized by the discussion about music rights, download platforms and file-sharing networks as well as the media networking of artists, their music and the respective media partners. As head of the "Music Journalism" course at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, I meet young people at the beginning of every academic year who are enthusiastic about music and media and eager to take a look behind the scenes of the media world, which is also where the authors of this book meet, as they are not only media makers who provide insight, but also lecturers at the university for the music journalists of tomorrow. All of them are concerned with the communication of music and media, as well as interdisciplinary and cross-genre work.Dr. Michael Schmidt, coordinator of the classical music portal BR-KLASSIK, is dedicated to the multimedia communication of classical music. He is a visiting professor for "Philosophy of Media Sounds" at the European Graduate School and works together with the New York multimedia artist Paul Miller, better known as DJ Spooky. Jo Schweizer is a presenter and head of production and comedy at Radio BAYERN 3, Patrick Morgan, formerly responsible for music coordination at MTV in London, is now head of music at bifgFM, Germany's largest private youth radio station. Screenwriter Ingo Regenbogen teaches as an expert in film and television, while journalist Larissa Vassilian is not only Germany's most successful podcaster (Annik Rubens: "Schlaflos in München"), but also a producer of podcasts for Audible and Warner Music. It is important to know little secrets about music and media, because this is the only way to understand how media works today and why media makers act in a certain way.Frizz Lauterbach
"Music and media" is a topic that has often been discussed in the past. Many church musicians are annoyed that their work does not receive the public attention it deserves. This brochure provides interesting insights into the connections between music and media. (KIBU May 2011 - MH)
"This booklet is of interest to anyone who writes or speaks about music in the media. And who doesn't do that in our profession? The editor Frizz Lauterbach has compiled twelve essays by renowned specialists in their respective fields. He himself writes about the written communication of music. It is interesting to reflect on how the word written about music reaches the reader, what it triggers in them; every author quietly assumes that the text they write will be understood by the reader exactly as the author imagines it. Many authors ignore the fact that this is actually a very complex causal chain. Screenwriter Ingo Regenbogen writes about the dramaturgy and cinematic means of expression in music documentaries. Patrick Morgan, head of music at Germany's largest private youth radio station bifgFM, gives an insight into the history of the video clip and how radio is made for young people. Jo Schweizer is a presenter and head of production and comedy at Radio BAYERN 3. He writes about how to listen to music - on the side or actively? Michael Schmidt, coordinator of the classical music portal BR-KLASSIK, is dedicated to the multimedia communication of classical music. Germany's most successful podcaster (Annik Rubens: "Schlaflos in München"), journalist Larissa Vassilian, explains everything about podcasts and gives instructions on how to produce and provide your own podcasts. Why is this booklet also interesting for us church musicians? Well, it certainly can't hurt to know the "little secrets" about music and media that are laid out here, as this is the only way to understand how media works today and why media makers act in a certain way. This will certainly allow you to see one or two aspects of his work in a new light." (Württ. Blätter, 3/2011)
