In 1990, the former GDR had the highest density of orchestras in the world. German reunification was followed by considerable structural changes for the entire orchestra and theatre landscape: mergers, dissolutions, privatisations and insolvencies characterised the period of the 1990s. In this publication, political players from the time of reunification as well as currently serving politicians have their say. What expectations and challenges characterised the time of upheaval 30 years ago? How do political decision-makers see the situation today?
