organ - Journal for the Organ 4/2025 Topic: Organs - an expression of hope The links between organs, organ music, war and peace are often very concrete. Despite inflation and the global economic crisis, numerous organs were built between the two world wars, both in major cities such as Stockholm (Stadshuset) and in the so-called provinces with respectable works - right into the Second World War: for example, the organ in Unzhurst in central Baden. In view of their hardship, people apparently always associated the organ with great hopes. In 1945, for example, the legendary "camp organ" of Rimini was built in a prison camp. The Peace Organ (2007) initiated by a German couple in Sant'Anna di Stazzema, where Waffen SS troops carried out a massacre of the civilian population on August 12, 1944, is a late sign of reconciliation. The composer Jaromír Weinberger (1896-1967), who fled to the USA in 1939, expresses hopes and longings in many different ways in his organ works. These impressive sounds can be experienced on our organ CD this time, recorded on the Feith organ from 1925 in St. Mary's Church in Berlin-Wilmersdorf.
