Description:
As part of a virtual journey across the American continent, this work aims to explore various entertainment music styles in cities or places that have had a lasting cultural influence on the history of music and dance. The first movement, "From Broadway to Memphis", begins and ends with a tribute to this district of New York, where countless musicals are performed every day and which is one of the musical centers of North America. The middle section takes us to the south of the United States, more specifically to the city of Memphis, which is considered the birthplace of rock 'n' roll. Great music legends such as Elvis Presley, B.B. King and Johnny Cash recorded albums there. The second movement will explore the southern United States in more detail. After a slow and soothing gospel that could have been sung in the state of Tennessee (the Gospel Music Association was founded in Nashville in 1964), the music becomes wilder and jazzier, as it could have been heard on the streets of New Orleans. In the third part, we continue our journey further south. The music is inspired by the mambo. This Latin genre is very popular in Miami, which has a large Latino population. A short central blues takes us back to the jazz cellars of New York. The circle closes with the finale, which takes up the musical theme of the first movement again.
