Description:
El Diablo Suelto is one of the best-known works in the traditional Venezuelan repertoire and was composed by Heraclio Fernández in the 19th century. This virtuosic piece, based on the joropo rhythm, conveys an exuberant energy and an almost diabolical character, as the title suggests. From the very first measures, the listener is drawn into a lively, swirling rhythm. The music alternates between brilliant passages and more lyrical sections, creating rich expressive contrasts. Bertrand Moren’s arrangement highlights the vitality and subtlety of the original composition. It preserves the work’s folkloric spirit while lending it a refined concertante dimension. The often-ornate and fast melodic motifs demand precision and agility. The overall effect is festive and passionate, entirely in keeping with the South American tradition. El Diablo Suelto thus remains an indispensable work—both spectacular and expressive.
