Description:
Siddis Brass is Norway's leading entertainment contest for brass bands. For the 2025 competition, the renowned Championship Section band Krohnengen Brass Band aimed to present a program based on the four elements: Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire. After lengthy discussions, we were unable to find an arrangement or composition that fit the theme of "Air." Many well-known pieces were considered, including the beautiful song by Danish composer Carl Nielsen, "Fascinated Evening Air" (composed in 1914), and Johann Sebastian Bach's wonderful "Air" from Orchestral Suite No. 3 (composed around 1720).
I had the idea that a combination of these two might work, and I wrote this arrangement for Henrik Falang, Krohnengen's principal cornet. The main melody is by Carl Nielsen, while the accompaniment and transitions are inspired by Bach
