Impermanence of the flow is a work in three movements that depicts the difficulty of maintaining a continuous line - in all things and especially in music. In a musical performance, the line and the connections between the motifs are fragile and constantly strive towards rupture. The same is true of the chords, which blend and blur, constantly seeking resolution. Everything is tense in the first movement: The musical line makes its way through a labyrinth of dense and dissonant themes and effects - sometimes fast, sometimes burlesque - until it ends in a momentary calm, carried by the cadenza of the flugelhorn, which leads into the second movement. In the second movement, which highlights various soloists, the line is calm and slow. It unfolds into a powerful chorale and then glides back into a peaceful mood. Finally, the musical line finds its place in the third movement - brief and continuous - and leads to a powerful conclusion that closes the work with a return to the various themes.
