Description:
This work is a tribute to the great Astor Piazzolla. I was fortunate enough to be invited to Argentina as a guest lecturer for two summer courses. The sounds, scents, music, and culture of this vast country deeply moved me and left a lasting impression on me. This is not the first tango piece I have composed, inspired by this great master. It is, however, the first in which I attempt to capture some of the raw energy of this dance form, as well as the characteristic breath of the bandoneon—the instrument on which Piazzolla was an unrivaled master.
