Description:
Henry Purcell (1659-1695) was an English composer of Baroque music, whose works are still often performed and recorded today. His work is among the most important Baroque repertoire. His rondo is part of his suite Abdelazer and is the music to the play “The Revenge of the Moor”. The Rondo (a fast dance in three-quarter time) from this suite became very famous when composer Benjamin Britten used the theme as a model for the educational work “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” two hundred and fifty years later. Steve Cortland made a modern arrangement of this work for concert band, fanfare and brass band entitled “Purcell’s Rondo”.
