Zweistimmiges Singen soll am Beginn des Musikunterrichts stehen. Man beginne mit Handzeichen, gehe dann zur Solmisation über und benütze schließlich die übliche Notenschrift. Wie das Kind physisch die ganze menschliche Entwicklung durchläuft, steht auch das erste, spontane Singen auf der Stufe vorgeschichtlicher Musik, wie sie bei primitiven Völkern oder in urtümlichen Schichten vorgeschrittener Völker zu finden ist. Außer archaischen ungarischen Liedern wurden einige sehr interessante Ainou-Motive aus der japanischen Sammlung verwendet und zweistimmig gesetzt. Um nicht zu mechanischer Übung zu werden, braucht das Singen vom Blatt immer wieder neues Material, ungewöhnliche rhythmische und harmonische Wendungen, aber es muss sich immer um gesunde, anziehende Musik handeln. Zweistimmiges Singen vom Blatt ohne jede instrumentale Begleitung ist der beste Weg zu raschem Fortschritt und zur Erwerbung des nötigen Vertrauens zu Rhythmus und Intonation. Das 'bewegliche do' fördert das Verständnis für Modulation und die musikalische Bedeutung jeder Melodienote, ohne das kein gründliches Musizieren möglich ist. Diese Ausgabe ist in Baden-Württemberg für den Gebrauch an Gymnasien, im Saarland und in Schleswig-Holstein für den Gebrauch an Grund-, Haupt- und Realschulen im Rahmen der Lernmittelfreiheit zugelassen.
