Description:
Johann Hinrich Wichern, Amanda Böhme and the street children of Hamburg - a musical about charity in action.
Hamburg, 1832: The two girls Lotte and Marie can't go to school because they have to work and earn money. It's not easy for them, but things get really difficult when Lotte's foster mother disappears. Who can help them? Perhaps Amanda Böhme, the nice teacher from Sunday school, or the young Mr. Wichern, who founded a rescue home for boys?
The story is based on true events: Johann Hinrich Wichern and Amanda Böhme put a lot of energy and charity into helping socially disadvantaged children. Wichern founded the "Rauhe Haus" for them in Hamburg and invented the Advent wreath for his children. In the musical, we learn how many candles were on a wagon wheel back then...
Johann Hinrich Wichern and Amanda Böhme are an impressive example of how great things can be achieved with a great deal of commitment. More or less destitute themselves and still very young, they managed to launch a major social movement that has helped many people out of poverty and continues to have an impact to this day. - What an encouraging story!
5 scenes, 3 stage sets (alley, church interior, room in the Rauhes Haus)8 songs for soloists and choir, 19 roles, 5 of which are large
Age: from approx. 8 years old
