Description:
Balogh Máté writes: Lob des Tokayers (''In Praise of Tokaji Wine''), composed for equal voices, was written to the German-language poem of the same title by Gabriella Baumberg, wife of János Batsányi. The poem became widely known through Franz Schubert's musical setting.
The choral work is a traditional drinking song in the classical sense. Its dance-like, spirited musical material is built upon so-called ''chromatic'' tetrachords characteristic of the musical practices associated with Dionysian traditions in ancient Greece.
At the climax of the piece, an instrumental melody - performable on any wind instrument - evokes at once the pipe of a faun and the flute of a vine-grower from the Tokaj wine region.
