Heinrich Schütz composed the "Musikalische Exequien" SWV 279-281 for the funeral service of his sovereign Heinrich Posthumus Reuß in 1635/1636. Of the three parts, which were to be performed at different points during the funeral service, the first - in the form of a sacred concerto for choir and soloists - is based on the numerous biblical passages that were inscribed on the coffin, which was designed according to the deceased's instructions during his lifetime. This is followed by a motet for double choir on the sermon text ("Herr, wenn ich nur dich habe") and, at the end, Simeon's hymn of praise ("Herr, nun lässest du deinen Diener in Frieden fahren"), to which a distant choir - from heaven, as it were - intones "Selig sind die Toten". With this commissioned composition, Schütz has created one of the most artistic and at the same time most heartfelt funeral compositions in music history. / Carus Choir Coach offers choir singers the unique opportunity to individually rehearse their choir voice in the overall sound of choir and instruments. A download album with all choral parts is available for each voice part. The Carus Choir Coach is based on recordings by renowned interpreters who have performed from the carefully prepared Carus Urtext edition. The choral movements are available in three versions: 1) original recording, 2) choach: each part is played along on the piano, original recording in the background, 3) coach in slow mode: complicated parts can be practiced effectively by reducing the tempo of the coach to 70% of the original.
