Dr. J. Frederic Staton (1884-1961)was a British organist, composer, adjudicator and pedagogue. Born in Yorkshire, he was a Parish organist and Choirmaster in Chesterfield from 1899 onwards, and also conducted several music societies and orchestras inthe 1920s and30s. He was an early examiner for the ABRSM, and spent the Second World War in Canada and New Zealand after travelling overseas to examine and adjudicate at Music Festivals. In 1942 he published Sweet Singing InTheChoir, a popular handbook of choral technique.
