Description:
Singing and playing score - optional parts included - choir (SSAA) and piano (synthesizer); accordion, wind instrument, bass, guitar and/or percussion ad lib. - Vocalisen
Originally a composition for solo voice, Dona nobis pacem combines the tradition of Joik (a traditional Sami singing form reminiscent of yodeling) with more classical singing techniques. The present arrangement for high choir voices, which can also be heard on the CD Northern Lights by the Norwegian women's choir Cantus, develops this range of vocal techniques further (as does the version for mixed choir, which is also available).
In addition to the notated piano accompaniment, the edition also contains chord symbols which allow for a freer accompaniment. The accompaniment can also be supplemented by optional parts for accordion, wind instruments and percussion. The entire text (except for the words 'Dona nobis pacem') consists of so-called Joik syllables, a type of vocalise with no actual word meaning, traditionally used by the Sami people (notes on correct pronunciation are included).
Fjellheim's distinctive and accessible musical language, perhaps still familiar from the opening scene from the Disney classic 'The Ice Queen', will captivate singers and audiences alike!
