Duerme Negrito - 'Sleep, little black one' - a traditional Cuban song, partly a simple lullaby, but with overtones of the slave trade. The child is warned that the 'white devil' will eat his foot if he doesn't go to sleep; but he is also promised all sorts of wonderful things despite the plight of the sick, destitute mother. Arranged for SSAA choir and a soloist with piano accompaniment.
