Description:
This arrangement of the 16th-century Christmas carol was created during a weekend when Anna Lapwood and the Pembroke College Girls' Choir composed together - the method of group composition they had experimented with before. The choir opted for a rhythmic impulse and momentum that is included in the introductory material from the beginning. This figure is repeated in the chorus of the first three verses, while the verses themselves are performed in simple unison. The final verse is harmonized and builds to the uplifting key change for the final chorus, creating a sense of climax that can be further enhanced by an optional tambourine.
