Description:
Composed for the Children's Chorus of Opera North, this piece is a setting for three high choral voices of Thomas Hardy's poem of the same name. The swaying style of a jazz waltz and the chromatic but very singable melody combine to create an effective and unique Christmas carol that adds a bit of variety to the Christmas program. The choral parts are very accessible, the verses are sung in unison, while the textless chorus (only one 'oo' is heard) is set in two or three voices.
