Description:
In this Christmas carol, which is available in a version for mixed choir (BH 13453) as well as for high choir voices (BH 13454) and was composed for the Leeds Philharmonic Chorus, the composer sets his own text telling the Christmas story from the point of view of the shepherds. The verses in English alternate with the Latin refrain 'Natus est nobis hodie Salvator' ('Today the Savior is born to us'). The fast up-tempo song sounds appropriately joyous, and the syncopated melody evolves from verse to verse from unison, to high voices, to a slower and more lushly harmonized version, to the final singing of the sopranos. An exciting new piece for the Christmas repertoire!
