In Maybebop's 'Volklore' program at chor.com 2019 in Hanover, Oliver Gies presented his arrangement of the Silesian folk song with lyrics by the famous poet Hofmann von Fallersleben to an enthusiastic audience. Written back in 1844, it expressed the unattainability of many wishes at the time. The dream of a land of milk and honey was often the only escape from misery and hardship for many people at the time. Nowadays, many have long since reached the supposed land of milk and honey and often can no longer do anything with all the abundance. While the longing place in Hofmann von Fallersleben's original words remains closed to the seeker because of a mound of plum jam, Oliver Gies warns us that in real life all abundance and arrogance is just a sham and that only through modesty can there be enough for everyone. A lively and contemplative choral piece that will get any audience thinking in a good way!
