Hugo Wolf (1860-1903) is regarded as one of the most sensitive musical interpreters of German-language poetry - a composer whose work reveals a fine nerve for the combination of word and sound in extraordinary depth. Despite his deep affinity for vocal music, Wolf's oeuvre comprises only a few works in the field of a cappella choral music. The Sechs geistliche Lieder were composed in the spring of 1881 and were to remain Wolf's last contributions to the genre of mixed choir a cappella. The music is predominantly homophonic and based on a varied, simple choral style. With a total duration of around 16 minutes, the cycle offers an intense spiritual and musical experience. This three-part SAM-Klang version also gives smaller choirs access to this impressive work - a rarely performed treasure in the shadow of Wolf's great song oeuvre.

The SAM-Klang series offers a basic repertoire for choirs with soprano, alto and one male voice. In addition to new repertoire and new arrangements, you will also find essential parts of the classical German, Scandinavian, French and English SATB repertoire, carefully and considerately reworked for SAM. The arrangements retain the characteristic features of the original movements and have almost the same fullness of sound, so that the works sound almost as familiar to the audience. The arrangements offer development opportunities for all voice groups and bring new life and quality to the SAM choir work. Piano reductions of all choral movements facilitate rehearsal preparation. SAM- Klang thus enables youth choirs, among others, to enter the classical choral literature and also ensures that mixed choirs with smaller ensembles continue to have access to the well-tried and appreciated repertoire.
