Die Motette 'Bless the Lord, O My Soul' (2013) über Verse des 103. Psalms reizt die Möglichkeiten von Stimmkombinationen und daraus resultierenden Klangwirkungen in hohem Maße aus: Im Anruf 'O my soul' zu Beginn erhebt sich der Sopran 1 schwebend über dem aufgefächerten tiefen Akkord der anderen Stimmen. Zu einem großem Klanggebäude türmt sich dagegen ein achtstimmiges Fugato ausgehend von 'For as the heavens are high above the earth' auf. Die Harmonik des Werkes ist tonal, doch viele angereicherte Akkorde verleihen dem Satz nuancenreiche Spannung. Das Werk ist auf der CD 'Rejoice. Vocal Music by Kay Johannsen' (Carus 83.496/00) erschienen.
