The "Camino de Santiago", the Way of St. James, is the name given to the various pilgrimage routes to the presumed burial place of the Apostle James the Elder in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The pilgrimage routes - today European cultural routes - have been known since the Middle Ages and are described in the "Liber Sancti Jacobi", a manuscript from the 12th century. This short cantata looks at the pilgrim on the Way of St. James from today's perspective, but also draws on the history of the pilgrimage route; the connecting texts alternate with the choral movements. The choral movements are in German - with the exception of the concluding "Vox nostra resonet", which can be omitted if desired.
