Gabriel Fauré composed the "Cantique de Jean Racine" in 1865 as the prize-winning final work of his musical training. The "Cantique" already possesses the typical Fauré characteristics of an expressive choral movement and, together with the Requiem, which was composed much later, is one of the composer's most popular works. This arrangement for choir SMsAB by Christiane Rosiny also makes the piece suitable for choirs with few men and for youth choirs. While the soprano and bass remain almost unchanged, the middle parts are arranged for soprano and alto. The orchestra uses the parts from the original version (Carus 70.302/19). In addition to the version for choir and string orchestra (Carus 14.402/00), a version for choir and organ (Carus 14.402/10) is also available.
