Bach's Christmas Oratorio was composed and compiled for the Christmas season as celebrated in Leipzig in 1734 and early 1735.
There are a total of six parts which were intended to be performed on the six major feastdays over that 13-day period from December 25 through January 6: the First Day of Christmas, Second Day of Christmas, Third Day of Christmas, Feast of the Circumcision, First Sunday of the New Year, and the Feast of theEpiphany.
This edition is Part One of the oratorio, scored for SATB Chorus and Piano.
