Description:
Rheinberger reported around 150 performances of his Christoforus in Germany and abroad around 1900 - a success story that unfortunately came to an end in the 20th century. With the present edition, based on the musical text of the Rheinberger Complete Edition and with orchestral material available on loan, the oratorio can find its way back into the repertoire. Based on a libretto by his wife Fanny, Rheinberger clothed the famous legend of the Christ-bearer in a colorful garment of dramatic dialogue, balladic narration and gripping depictions of nature - a magnificent task for choirs.
