The sacred choral work “Cyrie” or “Cyrie eleison” is one of only two works by Josephine Lang that were expressly intended for mixed choir: the Hölty setting “Tanzt dem schönen Maÿ entgegen”, and the present “Cyrie”.
„Josephine Lang’s “Cyrie” was a world premiere, rediscovered and reconstructed by Harald Krebs, with a text by Ingo Bredenbach. Velvety, noble A flat major, a silky flowing a cappella sound. The sonorous basses are impressive, with their chromatically attractive ascent and their powerful passage down to low C.
