Description:
The Low German Christmas Oratorio for soloists, mixed choir, orchestra and organ will see the light of day in December 2024. With De hillige Nacht, Claus Woschenko (* 1979) has created an impressive vocal work that combines traditional Christmas sounds with the special beauty of the Low German language.
The work follows the traditional dramaturgy of a Christmas oratorio: solos, recitatives and chorales alternate and tell the Christmas story in an impressive musical form. Well-known chorales such as "Makt hoch de Döör (Macht hoch die Tür)", "Kümmet, ji Harders (Kommet, ihr Hirten)" and many more can be heard, giving the composition a familiar, festive character.
Claus Woschenko's composition is characterized by a colourful, harmonious sound world that comes across as modern and at the same time remains accessible. His music combines contemporary forms of expression with the emotional warmth of Christmas. Through refined instrumentation and tonal nuances, he creates an atmosphere that is festive but not overloaded - modern without being dissonant. The music radiates a cozy depth that does justice to both the texts and the festive mood.
The composer also makes use of the sonorous, vocally rich beauty of the Low German language, which bears witness to a cross-border cultural area in northern Europe. This language, which can be excellently set to music and sung, lends the oratorio a special expressive power.
This piano reduction is intended for practical use for solos and choirs. It contains a preface by the composer and makes it easy to study the complete work. The Christmas Oratorio can be performed by amateur and professional musicians alike.
Premiere: 22.12.2024 in Plön Church.
Instrumentation: soli (SABarB), 4-piece mixed choir, 2.2.2.2.-0.1.0.0., Schlgw., Pk, Str (trombone choir ad lib.)
