Presented by Ernst Hintermaier. First edition. Cloth.

This volume enriches the series with a work that is of exceptional importance for the traditional history of music at the Salzburg prince-archbishop's court. On the one hand, it is a hitherto unpublished work by a composer who was one of the most important musicians in Europe in the second half of the 17th century, and on the other, it is a composition that is unique in Muffat's oeuvre in that there are no other works of this genre in his surviving oeuvre. In addition, the mass is characterized by the complexity of its compositional structure: it incorporates the various compositional influences of French (harmonic richness), Italian (concertizing in the manner of the spiritual motet, contrasting soggetti) and German music (overall conception, progressive formal structure).
