Description:
Choralkantate für gemischten Chor (SATB), 2 Violinen, 3 Violen und Basso continuo, hrsg. von Klaus-Jürgen Gundlach. Part. - 'Der' protestantische Choral schlechthin. In einer gelungenen Annäherung versteht es Johann Philipp Krieger (1649-1725), die c.f.-Teile in den Gesamtaufbau harmonisch einzuarbeiten. Die vorliegende Kantate ist dabei der einzig nachweisbare Beleg einer reinen Choralkantate im Gesamtwerk Kriegers. Der Kantate liegen die vier Strophen des Luther-Liedes zugrunde. Als gliedernde Elemente fungieren drei Ritornelle. Der Komponist zeigt damit, dass er sich einerseits auf dem Boden des von Samuel Scheidt geprägten Stils bewegt, andererseits in der Verwendung der Choralbearbeitung in Pachelbelscher Manier (von der auch J.S. Bach noch zehrt) auf der Höhe seiner Zeit befindet.
