The four elements of earth, air, fire and water were already considered the origin of all life in ancient Greece. In his choral cycle "Elements" for mixed choir SATB (con divisi), Stephan Görg has added love as a fifth element - based on the conviction that peaceful coexistence and survival on this planet is only possible through the power of love. And like the individual elements, each of the five movements of the cycle has its very own character: the earth, the mother of all life, is heard at the beginning in majestic block chords ("Earth", single edition Carus 9.334/10). In the second, often floating and weightless movement, the text by Julia Keidl paints the picture of a leaf dancing through the air on a breeze ("Air", single edition Carus 9.334/20). In the third movement, the fire becomes perceptible to all the senses: from a one-bar rhythmic motif, the music develops from whispering, narrative and gripping to destructively hammering ("Fire", single edition Carus 9.334/30). The fourth movement with its catchy melody and positive mood is at times reminiscent of a shanty. It makes you want to be at home on the surging sea, with a crew that sticks together ("A Life on the Ocean Wave", single edition Carus 9.334/40). "Without love we are nothing" - based on this statement, the last movement develops its dramaturgy with a simple monophonic melodic phrase reminiscent of a Gregorian chant ("Love", single edition Carus 9.334/50). / All movements are also available as individual editions. / The audio samples are live recordings from the Konzerthaus Dortmund from 2018.
