The cantata "Erhöhtes Fleisch und Blut" was composed as a parody of a secular cantata, presumably for Pentecost 1727. Despite the changes to the text, Bach made few changes to the musical structure, but expanded the original solo instrumentation of soprano and bass to a four-part ensemble. Particularly noteworthy among the solo movements is the extended, multi-part duet for soprano and bass in minuet form, which is certainly unique among Bach's cantatas in its musical language. The dance-like final chorus brings the four vocal parts together and effectively depicts the joy of the miracle of Pentecost.
