This composition unites the sacred with the folkloric, combining the classic six-part form of the Mass with means of expression characteristic of folk music - rhythmic vocal parts, traditional singing styles, and percussion instruments. Laura Jēkabsone and the vocal group "Latvian Voices" came to create this work through finding themselves between two distinct traditions: a professional music education and the heritage of Latvian folklore, handed down from generation to generation through the oral tradition.
