Description:
This hymn of praise was composed on the occasion of a thanksgiving service for a betrothal in June 2011. In search of a suitable text, the composer once again turned to the poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-61), from whom he had already set one of her sonnets to music a few years earlier, also on the occasion of a wedding (Love is beautiful indeed).
As the title suggests, the highly expressive text captures the intense feeling of love in words. The mostly homophonic music reflects this with lush harmonies and beautifully shaped phrases.
Suitable for choirs of intermediate ability, this setting is a joy for performers and listeners alike.
