Description:
The manuscript of this majestic festive hymn - also known as the 'Altenberg Hymn' - was only rediscovered in 2020, the 100th anniversary of the death of the Romantic composer Max Bruch, and is published in print for the first time in this edition. Bruch wrote the work in 1913 on the occasion of the completion of restoration work including the consecration of the organ in the famous Altenberg Cathedral, for which the Emperor had also promised to attend but was then unable to attend. The piece, which is very effective even without the ad lib wind instruments, consists of two parts, the first of which can be sung in either German or Latin: 'Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe' or 'Domine, salvum fac Regem', while the second part is based on the triumphant hymn 'Öffnet eure Tore, Fürsten, öffnet sie!', which is based on Psalm 24. This results in numerous possible uses for the work: on general festive occasions during the church year, at organ consecrations, but also during Advent, on Palm Sunday or on Ascension Day. At just under 5 minutes, this relatively short work can be a highlight of any solemn liturgy or church concert.
